Family counceling in terms of suitability to our culture

The family institution, that is the basic unit of society, has its own characteristics in every culture. Massive changes which involve societies require reconsidering the Turkish family structure, which has traditional, modern and postmodern features and identifying cultural features. Rapid social change has grown the family institution. Family is faced with many risk factors which eliminate the continuation of the family. To ensure structure of comprehensive family life and to protect family structure form social and global frameworks, family counceling are critical field of study. Family counceling that born and develop in West has different theories and different tecniques. It seeks solutions to certain family problems and contrabutes to the continuation of family. On the other hand, family is an original, lively and dynamic structure which cannot be evaluated independently of its culture and social structures. This study works on family counceling in accordance with Turkish family structure, examining the uses of each counseling theory with our culture and the features that do not fit our culture.There is not a a single theory that is fully suitible with our culture, and each theory seems to address certain features of the Turkish family structure with certain techniques.
