Preparation of waste management plan for poultry processing and slaughterhouse wastes

The broiler production and poultry processing industry is one of the fastest growing agro-based industry, in Turkey. Slaughtering broiler birds by retailers generates the waste like inedible offal, heads, feathers, undigested feed materials and, treated wastewater solids is a problem for the operators for handling and disposing. The large scale accumulation of poultry wastes including slaughtering and treatment creates pollution and biosecurity problems. The aim of the present study is to prepare the hygienic, environmentally safe and compliance with legal regulations waste management plan for broiler slaughterhouse wastes. The waste types formed after the poultry slaughterhouses were classified, analyzed and the waste characterizations were evaluated and the appropriate waste management plan was prepared together with the processes improvements.
