The mediating role of continuing hope and self-compassion between cumulative trauma and psychological resilience

Cumulative trauma is explained as individuals being exposed to more than one traumatic experience. The importance of healing factors emerges in the face of life events that challenge individuals psychologically, physically and cognitively. In this context, the concepts of psychological flexibility, enduring hope and self-compassion were discussed in this study, and the "mediating role of enduring hope and self-compassion between cumulative trauma and psychological flexibility" was examined. Relational screening model was used in the research. The study group consists of 309 people who were reached through purposeful sampling. Within the scope of the study, the Cumulative Trauma Scale, Psychological Resilience Scale, Continuous Hope Scale and Self-Compassion Scale were used. Pearson Product Moment Correlation and mediation analysis were used in the analysis of the data obtained. In addition, T-test was used in the analysis of differences between groups, and mean and standard deviation values were calculated along with frequency and percentage calculations in descriptive analyses. As a result of the research, it was concluded that both trait hope and self-compassion have a mediating role between cumulative trauma and psychological flexibility. When the relationships between variables were examined, a negative significant relationship was found between cumulative trauma and self-compassion. On the other hand, a significant positive relationship was found between cumulative trauma experience and trait hope. In this context, the dimensions of being able to find alternative ways that create constant hope and having active thoughts for these ways come to the fore.
