Family in the Holy Quran

In this study, the subject of the family, which is a social structure most frequently mentioned in the Qur'ān and given great importance, had been mentioned. The value of the family had been explained in the light of verses and ḥadīths. The importance of the family, which is described with the word "ahl" in about 127 places in the Qur'ān, for the peace, salvation, world and hereafter happiness of humanity, societies and especially the individual, had been conveyed. In the first chapter, the manifestation of the family in different societies and beliefs throughout history, its position, the roles of family members, intra-family relations and status, the value given to women had been mentioned. It had been transmitted the impact of the changing needs shaped by the development of humanity on the family. In the second part, in the light of verses and ḥadīths, the importance and roles, rights and responsibilities of the mother, the father and the children, who are the basic components of the family, in the family, had been mentioned by making use of the basic sources of the science of tafsīr. Short sections from the exemplary family life of the Messenger of Allāh (PBUH) had been presented. In the light of all these evidences, it had been explained what the solutions to many family problems experienced today can be. In the third chapter, the importance of marriage for the ḥalāl union of man and woman, the formation and upbringing of clean generations had been expounded. How the verses related to marriage were understood by the commentators (mufassīrs) had been revealed. The verses and ḥadīths on the termination of marriage and the related issues such as divorce, ʿıddat, alimony and inheritance had been discussed under the guidance of tafsīr sources and the study had been concluded.
