The issue of verbatim translation of QuranBy M. Hamidullah and Süleyman Ateş's translations

Translation is one of the oldest activities of humanity. As the languages of societies differ, the inevitability of relations between them has necessitated the need for translation. In this context, along with other translation activities, there have been attempts to translate the holy books into different languages throughout history, and in this sense, the most translated sacred book was the Quran. Most of the scholars working on the translation of the Quran stated that the translation process can be done in two different ways. These are exegesis and literal translation. This study focuses on the literal translation of the Quran. Whether this type of translation is suitable for the Quran was examined by considering two works in this field. A study to be made by giving examples of these two works about literal translation will contribute to the field of the translation of the translation. For this reason firstly the lexical and explanation meanings of the concepts of translation and meaning were emphasized and then the literal translation examples in the works in question were examined and the study was completed.
