Abstract (EN)

Exhibition design is a creative presentation practice that requires interdisciplinary work, in which many actors are involved in the design process. The aim of this study is to sum up the critical points that are being experienced in the development process of curatorial practice and exhibition design, and reveal the working processes of the curator and exhibition designer in the interdisciplinary exhibition design. In this context; archive, archeology and ethnography exhibitions known as social-cultural exhibitions with very rich content in terms of written and visual materials; as well as individiual-mixed-group and retrospective exhibitions were deemed valuable in terms of examination. In the presentations of these exhibitions, it is seen that the effective power of graphic design in conveying the message is utilized. Curator in exhibition design processes in curatorial practice; determines the idea of the exhibition around a research and conceptual framework and during the interior space arrangement works with the exhibition designer in presenting the story-telling setup, which he has created with the artist-work-object selection, the relations between the work and on the other hand, the exhibition designer's design process is different from that of the curator. The process, which starts with pre-explanation and idea development, constitutes the first stage of the graphic designer's exhibition design creative process. Among these stages are the display items used in graphic design; color, typography, illustration, photography, map-scheme and orientation headings. In this context, the designs of the Milat and Kulis exhibitions, which were brought to the visitors in 2020 at the Yapı Kredi Culture and Art Gallery on the axis of Istanbul in Turkey, were examined through the creative processes of curatorial practice and exhibition design, and a comparative analysis of these two exhibitions was made and it was concluded that the exhibitions in which the exhibition designer was involved had a strong impact.
