Poverty problem in Turkey in the process of globalization

The purpose of this thesis is to determine the relationship between globalization and poverty and to examine the problem of deepening inequality and poverty in Turkey with numerical data. Competition and market-oriented economic structure which developed in parallel to globalization after 1980 generated poverty enhancing in Turkey. That there have been hot money-oriented growth policies that import-driven production strategies have been dominant, and that intensive commercial and financial relations in foreign countries have increased have adversely affected labor markets. As a result of the labor market's being flexible and the changes appearing in the structure of production, real wages and employment capacity has dropped significantly. Reduction of production and labor costs caused deterioration of income disparity. Additionally, together with the neoliberal transformation processes, switching from real economy to transfer economy have been effective in leading to domestic resources not to be used in productive areas and increase in income disparity. Increasing the demand for skilled labor, huge advances in technology caused wage differentials between skilled and unskilled labor. With the increasing rural-urban migration resulting from decline in employment opportunities in agricultural sector, this situation has become clearer. On the other hand, with the impact of immigrants from foreign countries, population in urban areas has increased and informal employment has become widespread. The increase of privatization and outsourcing practices has caused considerable constriction in domains of the trade unions. Global layout has upset the economic balances and a spiral of unemployment and poverty has arisen in the country's economy.
