Determination of mass attenuation coefficient for Pb-Sn alloy by Co-60 radioactive source and GEANT4 simulation program

Abstract (EN)
In this study, using Geiger-Muller counter, photons of Co-60 that passing through Pb-Sn alloy have been measured. Experimental setup has been simulated by Geant4 simulation program. Two different photon energies at 1173 keV and 1332 keV that emitted from Co-60, passed through material and transmitted photon count have been obtained by Geant4. Also, material has been set by XCOM program. Mass attenuation coefficient for the Pb-Sn alloy has been calculated for experimental data and by using Geant4 mass attenuation coefficients have been calculated for different photon energies: 1173 keV and 1332 keV. From two different gamma spectrum studies, count of Co-60's gammas have been compared and a coefficient have been obtained between them. As a result of this ratio, average mass attenuation coefficient of Co-60's gammas has been determined for Pb-Sn alloy. In addition, mass attenuation coefficients have been obtained by using XCOM program for 1173 keV and 1332 keV. The results that have been determined experimentally and average result of mass attenuation coefficient that has been obtained by using Geant4 have been found compatible. Also, these Pb-Sn alloy results are in the range of XCOM's mass attenuation coefficients calculations for 1173 keV and 1132 keV.
