Abstract (EN)
The main aim in this study has been to determine the extent of the effects ofthe Turkish War of Independence on Turkish art of painting and art educationbetween 1917 and 1940, and to find out how these effects are reflected in theirpaintings. This is a historical study based on ?Research On Historical ExamplaryWorks?. The space of the study is comprised of the paintings painted between 1917and 1940, which describe the War of Independence; and of their painters. In order to determine how much the painters were influenced by the War ofIndependence, and how they reflected this in their works, a painting analysis formconsisting of three parts was prepared. In the first chapter, 19 questions werepresented in order to collect data concerning the works, in the second, 8 questionsconcerning the painters, and in the third, 10 questions with choices as ?yes?, ?alittle?, and ?no? concerning the assessment of the works. This form was analysed, grouped, compared, and criticised by 7 experts in thefield. In order to evaluate the data received, every question asked in all the three partswas also asked in all the 31 paintings. In the analysis of the resulting data receivedabout the 31 paintings by 13 various painters, the percentage (%) calculations wereapplied. In these calculations, the total number (217) was obtained through themultiplication of the number of the paintings (31) by that of the experts. The results obtained from these data were shown in the ?Findings andComments? chapter, evaluated, and the results and suggestions were presented. In the analysis of the data derived from the examination of 31 paintings of 13various painters by 7 experts in this field, percentage ( %) calculations were used.As a result of the study, it has been clarified that through the influence of theWar of Independence, the art of painting, having taken its roots in the Ottomanperiod, gained a new dimension. It has also been observed that the painters in thisperiod focused on themes based on war by choosing relevant plastic narrative meansdue to their experiences obtained during the War of Independence and its resultsthereafter.
