Investigation of the geology and marble evaluation of limestones around Kurudere village (Emirdağ / Afyonkarahisar)

The aim of this study was to investigate the mineralogical-petrographical properties, geochemical properties and block capacity of the limestones produced in the region of Triassic aged dolomitic limestones observed in Kurudere village of Emirdağ district of Afyonkarahisar province and its surroundings. As a result of the field studies, the gray dark gray colored limestones spreading in the region were divided into four (4) groups according to their lithological and textural features. Respectively, there are light gray colored brecciated (AGB) dolomitic limestones, dark gray colored brecciated dolomitic limestones (KGB), light gray colored banded/laminated dolomitic limestones (AGS) and dark gray banded/laminated dolomitic limestones (KGS). In the results of polarizing microscope examinations and XRD analysis, it was determined that the main components of dolomitic limestones contain dolomite + calcite and quartz minerals in less amount. In addition, it has been observed that the texture of the dolomitic limestones generally shows micritic texture and micro-cracks in places and sparry calcite minerals are located. In geochemical investigations, CaO and MgO contents were found to have higher values compared to other main oxides. No enrichment was observed in the rare earth element analysis. In terms of trace element contents, it was observed that the contents of Sr and Ba elements were enriched compared to other trace elements. Line survey and window survey techniques were used to determine the block capacity of dolomitic limestones. In this context, the direction, slope and slope amounts of the discontinuities on the determined lines were determined. In addition, discontinuity spacing, discontinuity spacing and continuity of discontinuities were measured. All the data received were calculated in the 3D Autocad program, and the block capacity of the limestones was calculated. According to the three-dimensional block measurement results, the block capacity of dolomitic limestones in the Şenler Marble quarry was determined as 16 percent.
