Abstract (EN)
The sedimentary rocks of the Late Jurassic and Late Cretaceous ages in the northeastern part of the Sakarya Zone are predominantly composed of carbonate rocks. These carbonate rocks are widespread along the Ikisu-Kurum valley, which is located in the Torul district of Gümüşhane. In this study, sedimentary rocks from the Late Jurassic-Late Cretaceous time interval that outcrop along the valley were examined. The stratigraphy of the Ikisu-Kurum Valley was discussed in this study, and one measured stratigraphic section from the Berdiga Formation and two measured stratigraphic sections from the Upper Cretaceous sediments were examined. The base levels of the Berdiga Formation in the study area consist of dolomites. Three different facies transitions were observed in the samples taken after dolomites. Carbonate sediments started with an inner platform facies feature, continued with open shelf structures upwards, and ended with carbonate sediments with open/deep shelf facies feature, which also had an inner platform structure. In paleontological determinations, it was determined that carbonates began to deposit from Valanginian and ended in Albian. In the Upper Cretaceous sections taken, it was determined that sediments started with a volcanic interlayer that was unconformable on the Berdiga Formation and continued upwards with calcareous clastics, pelagic limestones, and turbidites.
