The corporate social responsibility perceptions: A study on hotel employees and tourists

Abstract (EN)

The main objective of this study is to reveal the corporate social responsibility perceptions of the tourists and employees serving in the tourism industry in the hotels in the Antalya region and to examine the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) applications on tourists' holiday preferences. Another aim is to contribute to the CSR literature in the field of tourism, which hasn't been examined sufficiently, with a theoretically and empirically original work. Within this scope, the related body of literature is reviewed, the previous studies are utilized and in order to obtain primary data for this study a survey is conducted on the employees and tourists in the five-star hotels operating in the Antalya region in 2015. 550 employees and 450 tourists in the five-star hotels operating yearlong in the Antalya region in 2015 constitute the research population. Convenience sampling method is applied in the study to determine the sample in the population. The obtained data is analyzed through the statistical program developed for social sciences; frequencies, percentages and arithmetic means are calculated. To have inferential statistics regarding the variables of the research; t-test, analysis of variance, correlation and regression analysis are applied. According to the result of valid data, it is found that corporate social responsibility activities in the tourism sector has been perceived positively by staff, however not perceived so positive by tourists. It is also found that the corporate social responsibility perceptions of employees working in the businesses having social responsibility departments and separating more budged to the social responsibility activities are more positive than other businesses employees. Moreover, the social responsibility perceptions of senior managers found to be higher than lower level workers. It can be stated that, the social responsibility awareness level of the tourists is above average and they act with the sense of social responsibility during the evaluation process, therefore they rather stay in hotels having social responsibility applications.
