Effects of the Belt Road Project on Indian foreign policy and trade

China's hegemony through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has established it as a significant global actor. By making substantial investments in infrastructure, military, economy, and technology, China poses a threat to major economies like India through various debt strategies worldwide. This study examines the global threat posed by China and the economic and international relations established by other major states with India in response to this threat. Within the frameworks of balance of power and balance of threat theories, the study evaluates the impacts on India's foreign trade and policies, and offers recommendations for future relationships in line with the dynamics of the 21st century. It explores India's foreign trade policies and balancing maneuvers within the extensive dynamics of the BRI, including alternative routes and collaborations with the superpower United States against China. In this context, new alternative projects are being developed to maintain global economic balance, particularly in collaboration with countries in the Indo-Pacific region, such as the Blue Dot Network, Quad (and Quad Plus), against Beijing's technological, infrastructural, and economic investments and incentives. The primary focus of this research is to assess how effectively India, with the support of the United States, can balance China's successful initiative until the planned completion of the Belt and Road in 2046.
