Kutadgu Bilig's analysis of the values in the social studies curriculum

Values are important developments that shape human life. Values are taught to individuals through various courses within the education system. One of the courses in which values and value teaching are emphasized the most is the Social Studies course. This course aims to grow well and effectively through values. In this research, it is aimed to examine the work called Kutadgu Bilig, which has an important place in Turkish profiles, from the perspective of 18 values in the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum. Qualitative research method was used in this research. The data documents of the research consist of the work called Kutadgu Bilig. In the research, data was obtained through document analysis. The data discussed was analyzed using content analysis. In the research, it was determined that 18 values in the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum were included in Kutadgu Bilig. In Kutadgu Bilig, the values of justice, solidarity and distance are mentioned the most, while the values of aesthetics, diligence and savings are mentioned the least. The values of friendship, self-control, patience, generosity, virtue, trust and sacrifice, which are included in the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum, were also identified in the work. It is seen that among these values, virtue, generosity and trust in trust are mentioned the most in Kutadgu Bilig. According to what was obtained from the research, it emerged that Social Studies could be learned in depth in terms of the values of the work called Kutadgu Bilig. In this regard, it can be suggested to benefit from Kutadgu Bilig in teaching values in social studies courses.
