Movable book illustrations and an application example for the promotion of Kütahya province

The book used for many purposes is one of the important materials for people. The book has been produced in different techniques and characters with the possibilities of the age and developing technology over time. Because of this feature, books have become a part of everyday life like a living being. This phenomenon has sometimes occurred in the education process and sometimes with special interest. Although books used mostly for educational, entertainment and promotional purposes are generally produced in the same kind and form, both publishers and designers have searched for new designs to produce original designs. In this context, they have designed new types of books to increase the interest of children towards the book and to produce aesthetic and more dynamic books. One of these is pop- up books. Pop- up books with different structural features from other books feature sound effects, texture feel, three-dimensional structural mechanism, and brightly colored paper. Thanks to these features, it exhibits a more engaging, intriguing, visually rich and more creative narrative than other books. Pop- up books that can be designed as visual, auditory and practical are used to attract attention and make a difference in many areas in present. But, the designs of such books can be said that they are insufficient level in Turkey. It is known that most of the existing books are imported or prepared in abroad. The fact that books brought from abroad cannot be translated into Turkish reduces the gains from the books. Therefore, it was aimed to design pop-up books covering the historical and local culture products of Kütahya for the promotion of Kütahya province, of which primary target group is the primary school children. In order to reach this aim, the related literature has been scanned and it has been interviewed with experts and researchers related to the study. This research, which examines the pop-up books, has resulted in the design of pop-up books, of which aimed comminity is the primary school children in the Kütahya province, covering the historical and local cultural products of Kütahya, at the promotion of Kütahya. This book, which is designed in three dimensions, differs from its original drawings with its subject, illustration and movement ability. This book design, which will be an example to the site designers and design researchers, to the primary school students that are in its target community to get to know the city they live in, to take elements of local culture to future generations, to contribute to be able to gain the habit of reading is expected.
