The Effect of screw diameter on tensile and compression strength for case construction corner joints

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it has been investigated that the effect of screw diameter with different connections and different boards on tensile and compression strength for case furniture screw corner joints. Glued (stable) and without glue (demontable) joints as connection types, particleboard, medium density fiberboard, particleboard (surfaced with synthetic resin) and medium density fiberboard (surfaced with synthetic resin) as board types were used in the tests. Specimens were prepared in their standart sizes and tested under tension and compression loads. Desmodur VTKA adhesive was used in the stable joints. According to result of the tests, it has obtained that the demontable joints have been more successful than the stable joints. Among the boards, medium density fiberboard (surfaced with synthetic resin) has given the best result. It has been obtained that, the screw which has 4 mm diameter has been more successful than the others in tension tests, the screw which has 5 mm diameter has been more successful than the others in compression tests.
