Determination of the moment performance of minifixed corner for case construction furniture

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the moment performance of minifixed corner joints of caseconstruction furniture have been investigated. In the tests, particle board,medium density fiberboard, particle board and fiberboard surfaced withsynthetic resin, plywood and oriented strand board were used as the woodmaterials. Two kinds of minifix elements with plastic and metal were utilized asthe fasteners. Moreover these joints were constructed with ready to assemble.Totally, 288 specimens were exposed to diagonal tension and diagonalcompression tests under static loads. According to test results, it was concludedthat MDF lam specimens showed the highest performance and the particleboard specimens gave the lowest performance. Not only in the diagonal tensiontests, but also in the compression tests the particle board becomes the materialwhich shows the lowest performance while the highest performance is carriedby plywood materials. According to types of materials minifix, the highestperformance was obtained by metal dowel connectors and plywood materials inthe tests of diagonal tensile and pressure. On the other hand, the lowestperformance was shown by metal dowel materials and the particle boardspecimens. Moreover, the differences between the metal dowel connector andthe particle board material has become insignificant in terms of statistics. Inconelusion, to use of MDF lam and plywood can be suggested techniquely incase construction furniture. Since there are no significant differences betweendowels, they can be used interchangably. Furthermore, minifiks typebconnecting materials can be beneficial to producers, consumers and designers interms of esthetics, techniques and economy.
