Librarianship ethics: A research on ethical perception and behaviors of staff in university libraries

The aim of the research is to create awareness about occupational ethics for staff working as librarian and preparing a background for possible improvements by measuring their current ethical perception. In addition to that, considering variability of ethical perception levels of librarians in terms of demographical properties, determination of approach differences to actions are inteded. In the direction of aims survey is applied to 210 librarians of 100 Universities which selected without considering foundation and state distinction. The data gathered from survey is analysed of by SPSS 20 programme. As a result of this research, it is observed that demographical properties cause differences in ethical perception and attitudes of librarians. It has also been found that the moral and ethical concepts are intermingled by the librarians. Findings in the research reveal that a policy of education for the librarianship profession should be developed that incorporates the issue of ethics.
