Abstract (TR)
The purpose of this cross culture study was to determine the prevelance, identify the most commenly effected body parts and examine the risk factors that influence the musculoskeletal problems. 1552 volunteer farmers were chosen randomly in accordance with data to be collected from farmers who are registered to the farmers association of TRNC. Volunteers were from %12,18 Nicosia, %34,66 Famagusta, %11,86 Kyrenia, %11,08 Morphou and %30,22 Trikomo. Demografic data form was generated from literature. Professional data forms included the major parameters related from National Farm Survey. Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was used for determing the prevalence of musculoskeletal disease and the location of pain. 336 (%21,65%) female and 1216 (%78,35) male farmers participated. The average of age for male farmers were 49,02 ± 11,94 years and female farmers were 47,80 ± 10,99 years. İn this research %70 farmers was dealing with only livestook, %29 only holticulture and %1 was seen dealing with both. Prevelance of pain due to musculoskeletal diseases was found signicantly higher in farmers who deal with holticulture. The major problem and the most painful body region at farmers was estimated with frequency analysis. Firstly the waist, then upper extremity and lower extremity limb pain was observed, resulting from musculoskeletal diseases. Associated risk factors to the pain of lumbar region and lower extremity was estimated with logistic regression analysis. Farming occupation, gender, alcohol, smoking and exercise status, occupational seniority, lifting or moving weight of 25kg and over, and the stress state have been identified. Farming activities in TRNC are still conducted with traditional methods which needs to be modified by farmers. İndustrial farming technologies should be adopted and it’s considered that management of agriculture enterprises are required. Training farmers the principles of ergonomics in farming activities is also important to decrease the prevalence and risk factors of musculoskeletal diseases.
