Abstract (EN)
Water is an extremely important resource for all living beings in nature to survive and meet their personal needs. Water is used not only to meet personal needs, however also in different sectors like agriculture and tourism. Although it is seen that some countries have water problems depending on the geographical location, it cannot be said that these countries will never have water problems. This is because the expected rainfall, prolonged droughts and global climate change adversely affect water resources. This has led countries to take radical decisions on the rational consumption of water resources. The Eastern Mediterranean basin is one of the regions that deeply feel the water problem. Located in this region; Egypt, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Malta, Libya, Tunisia, Jordan, the Greek Cypriot Administration (GKRY) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) are among the countries that feel the problem. Despite the presence of this region in Turkey it is deeply feeling the water shortage as well as other countries. Although it is located in this region in Greece, it differs from these countries due to its rich water resources. The island of Cyprus, on the other hand, is shown among the regions that are seriously affected by the water problem. Lack of precipitation, high evaporation, global climate change and lack of efficient storage of water resources on the island of Cyprus cause not only the Greek Cypriot Administration but also the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to feel the water problem clearly. In the KKTC, which is poor in terms of water resources and precipitation, it has been experiencing water shortages since the day it declared its independence and seeks solutions to this problem. In this thesis; It is aimed to carry out the hydropolitical evaluation of the KKTC water resources and access activities with a geographical perspective.
