Interaction between the coastal bottom trawl fishery and the small-scale fisheries in the Northeast Mediterranean (Antalya)

This study was performed on the stations of Finike, Manavgat and Serik between the dates of December 2011 and November 2012. Seasonal samplings were done by three different fishing gears. Bottom trawl sampling was performed in the depths of 20-50 m, 51-100 m and 101-200 m by one-hour hauling. Trammel net and longline samplings were carried out in the depths of 0-20 m, 21-50 m and 51-100 m. Total caught were 6329,5 kg as the result of 108 trawl operations. The amounts of these products were 2563.6 kg, 2620.7 kg and 1145.3 kg in the stations of Finike, Manavgat and Serik, respectively. The highest average CPUE value was recorded 76,2 kg/h in autumn when the season of trawl operations were set, whereas this value decreased to 45,3 kg/ in winter season. The highest average CPUE value was 67,9 kg/h in 51-100 m contour when calculated basing on depth. However, average CPUE was determined 58,6 kg/h and 49,3 kg/h in the contours of 20-50 m and 101-200 m, respectively. The average CPUE value was 71,2 kg/h in the station of Manavgat where any kind of trawling has been banned. Meanwhile, average CPUE was recorded 31,8 kg/h in the station of Serik which is located in the most important trawl operation area of the Gulf of Antalya. The average CPUE values calculated basing on season and depth demonstrated no statistical difference in the trammel net fishing (p>0.05). However, there is statistical difference between the catch efficiency in the station of Manavgat and CPUE values calculated for other stations (p<0.05). The effect of season and stations on catch efficiency was not observed in longline fishing. Conversely, the difference between the average CPUE value calculated for the contour of 51-100 m with 0-20 m and 21-50 m was significant (p<0.05).
