Tectono-stratigraphic properties and geodynamic evolution of northeast pontides

In this study, it is aimed to reveal tectono-stratigraphic properties of geological units showing an areal extent in northeast of the Eastern Black Sea and geodynamic processes acting on the region. Lithologic units are considered as formations and members to reveal these elements, and conditions of formation, ages and interrelationships for these units are explained by detailed stratigraphic sections. Because the most extensive lithologic association is known as Late Cretaceous arc volcanism products in the region, lithologies prior to this period are entitled by "Basic Units". The units are grouped under the titles as "Intra-arc Basin Units", which developed in the region of arc between Turonian and early Maastrichtian, and as "Intra-arc Cover Units", which are carbonate rocks and clastics overlying these units unconformably, and as "Back-arc Basin Units", which are pelagics developed in a basin opened at back of arc, and as "Post-Collisional Units" which are clastics overlying all these units unconformably. Tectonic line forming the boundary of arc with back-arc is defined as Murgul-Borçka Line. The region of arc firstly rose in late Campanian / early Maastrichtian forming a positive area and Eastern Black Sea basin opened as a back-arc basin in the north of Murgul-Borçka Line.
