Abstract (EN)
Coastal areas and sources are among the most valuable natural wealth of the countries. According to UN?s determination (1992) countries those have coasts are liable to use coastal zones and sources conformable to sustainable development apprehension. Every country that has coasts must get the advantage of this wealth sustainable for their own benefit and future. There are sensitive counterpoises at coast areas such as fishing, port facilities, tourism and ecological system that must be protected. In our country coastal areas are under serious danger due to inconsideration of importance of coastal zone management, not to actualize sustainable development plans, legal deficiencies and insufficient control establishments. In this thesis coastal zone management and necessary systems has been explained. The problem in coastline change of Terkos Lake Basin, which is one of the most important drinking water source in Istanbul needing to have an efficient coastal zone management plan, has been demonstrated and supported with a numerical model. On the first section; description of coastal zone has been done, institutional and physical infrastructures have been explained. On the second section; remote sensing methods and their usage purposes at coastal zones have been pointed out. Problems can be easily determined via remote sensing systems by defining the changes on the earth fast and correctly. On the third section; geomorphology of Terkos Lake Basin which has been pointed out which has great importance among the coasts that erosion has occurred in our country and that needs to be protected with an integrated coastal zone management. On the forth section; coast erosion has been determined at Terkos Lake coastal zone by applying remote sensing method and numerical model of Terkos coast morphology has been composed. Finally, importance of coastal zone management for our country has been underlined an necessity of an effective coastal zone management for Terkos Lake coast has been presented in order to keep continue to use as a sustainable water source. Keywords: Coastal zone management, remote sensing, shoreline change, longshore sediment transport, erosion, Terkos coastal zone
