Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, a two dimensional numerical model, which simulates oil spill in coastal waters, has been developed. Two dimensional advection-diffusion equation was used as a governing equation in the model. The equation was solved numerically by finite difference method. In solving phase, central difference approximation was applied to both advection and diffusion terms. Sea current speed which is used as an input parameter in the model was obtained by a hydrodynamics model called HİDROTAM3. Developed as two dimensional, model yields oil concentration distribution at each time step. Two different oil types having different API values were examined under varying current paterns depending on the wind speed blown above 10 m on the sea surface. Meanwhile, according to the type of the oil, the model is able to compute the amount of oil weathered with the effect of evaporation which is one of the most important processes and also the process in which biggest oil amount loss is occurred. Model was applied to the Mersin coastal zone.
