Researching affecting factors of population density of pine processionary moth on red pines

Abstract (EN)

It is accepted that insects are the most harmful factor for Turkey's forest health. For literature this damage harmful five times more than forest fires. Pine species spreading in very large area in Turkey. Red pine (Pinus brutia) species which is infected with Pine processory moth, covers the area about 3 million hectares. In this area has 161 million cubic meters in excess of wealth, 5 million cubic meters increment, and 4 million cubic meters ETA for red pine stands which are very important for our forestry. Especially native red pine (P.brutia) makes its spreading on Aegean and Marmara seashores. And in some microclimatic regions which has a same conditions these climates, red pine is also make its spreading. Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Den. &Schiff.) is an important insect which damages heavily on pine species. This insect makes its damage almost 1 500 000 hectares forest areas. Its caterpillar makes damage while making suitable surface for fungis and eating tree's leaves. Changeable climate conditions with global warming increases the epidemy risk. In Turkey, to fight with this insect 10 million liras are spending each year. In this study, it will be investigated, the density of pine processory moth on pine species and the factors affecting the choice of insect. This study aims to determine damaged areas and synthesize the population density with the values of altitude, age of tree, height of tree, diameter. This study also aims to find pine processory moth's preferred locations while identifing their locations. In this study, the population density of the pine processionary in Pine stand factors affecting on was investigated.
