Özet (EN)

In this study, some physical, mechanical and technological properties of Cornelian-Cherry (Cornus mas L.) wood is specified. The samples used in experiments were selected from the Forestry Administration Department in Kastamonu and Taşköprü. Experiments were conducted in the Furniture and Decoration laboratories of Kastamonu University Forestry Faculty Forest Industry Engineering and Karabük University Technical Education Faculty. Physical properties, moisture, fiber saturation moisture , the maximum amount of water in wood, air-dried specific gravity, full dry specific gravity, volume-density value and the amount of volume contraction and expansion was determined. Mechanical properties; parallel compression strength to fibers, bending strength, elasticity module, shock resistance and also technological properties; Brinell hardness, bonding strength, the nail holding resistance values were determined. As a result, physical properties of cornelian cherry wood were found as; moisture content 13.341%, fiber saturation moisture content 26.211% and the maximum water content of wood 70.970%, air dried specific gravity 0.947 g/cm3, a full dry specific gravity 0.904 g/cm3, the amount of volume density 0.726 g/cm3, the value of volumetric contraction 18.41%, the amount of volumetric expansion 22.16%. The mechanical properties, were found as; parallel compression strength to fibers 579.88 kg/cm2, bending strength is 978.737 kg/cm2, elasticity module 59320.13 kg/cm2, shock resistance 0.769 kg/cm2. Technological properties were found as; Brinell hardness to fibers in parallel direction 11.16 kg/mm2, in radial direction 6.49 kg/mm2, in the tangential direction 7.64 kg/mm2, bonding strength of Polyvinylacetate (PVAc) adhesive is 9.96 N/mm2, bonding strength with Desmodur-VTKA (D-VTKA) 6.88 N/mm2, the nail holding strength to fibers in parallel direction 1361.49 N, in radial direction 1383.04 N, in the tangential direction 1405.94 N. The usage of Cornelian cherry is suitable for production handicrafts, chair and walking-sticks because of higher specific gravity, hardness and elasticity. Also, it should be used in place where preferred elasticity.
