Abstract (EN)
The urban heat island (UHI) effect explains the fact that the average temperature values are higher than the rural areas as a result of the increasing population in the cities and the increase in the construction accordingly. In order to reduce this effect, the use of cool materials with high solar reflection value in areas such as roofs and facades of buildings and pavements is being investigated. In this thesis, the total solar (TSR) and near-infrared (NIR) reflection and accordingly the solar reflection index (SRI) of dark colored (black, brown, gray, red) ceramic surfaces, which are preferred as facade cladding elements in architectural projects, were investigated. An application design was developed that will cause a decrease in the temperature of the ceramic surfaces. The reflection performance and thermal emissivity of the samples prepared with two different models were measured and the SRI values were calculated, and the surface temperatures of the samples were modeled with a wall section simulation program and compared with the temperatures measured in real ambient conditions. As a result, when the reflectance performance of the developed surfaces were examined, TSR, NIR and SRI values for standard colors were improved by 92%, 116%, 179% for brown color, 55%, 58%, 117% for black color and 37%, 40%, 51% for dark gray color, respectively. With the simulation study, it is modeled that when NIR reflecting surfaces are used on the facade of the building, a decrease of 2 BTUs in heat flow and a decrease of 0.7 to 1 °C in indoor temperature will be observed.
