Abstract (EN)

According to Aristotle, tragedy is an art which arouses emotions in the soul such as fear and pity, whose arousal depends on specific conditions, by a specific mode of imitation. This specific mode of imitation can be defined as imitating persons acting. Since the unique aim of tragedy is to imitate persons acting, it is important in what way the actions of the characters in a tragedy should be unified. Aristotle claims that in tragedy necessary, probable and possible actions should be unified and anticipated emotions of pity and fear should arise out of a plot that is constructed in this way. According to Aristotle, the methods and the characters that are employed in tragedy in order to arouse these emotions should be delivered to spectator through a plot that is constructed in this way.
