Zenon'un ok paradoksunun Aristotelesçi zaman kavramı üzerinden incelenmes

This thesis examines Zeno's Arrow paradox through the relation of time and motion and Aristotle's objection to the reasoning of Zeno. The reason for our writing this thesis is our finding a defect in Zeno's reasoning on the relation of time and movement, which seemingly is more crucial than that underlined by Aristotle. Thus, we bring an alternative objection from Aristotle's concepts on time and motion to the objection that Aristotle brought to Zeno's reasoning. We have stated that it is inconvenient to make a proof of the impossibility of movement by making use of a concept of "now", subject to time, without making a judgment as to whether time is separate from motion, that is, without the relationship between time and motion being revealed. When a pre-admission of how time relates to movement through Aristotle's thought is included in Zeno's reasoning, since the concept of "now", which provides the condition of the impossibility of the motion, is essentially a concept that requires motion, the impossibility of the motion is proved by a concept that requires the movement. Because Zeno's reasoning is determines "now" as a sufficient condition for the impossibility of the motion, however, our alternative objection is based on the fact that the necessary condition of now is motion. Thus, according to the alternative objection, in fact the necessary condition of "now", determined by Zeno as the sufficient condition of the impossibility of the motion, is the motion. Therefore, we have argued that Zeno's reasoning will be invalid. We consider Aristotle's objection to Zeno insufficnt, because he uses a reductive concept of now than the concept of now in his own time theory: While expressing the inaccuracy of the concept of now in the arrow paradox, Aristotle does not refer to the mediation of motion. Instead of that, in his objection, Aristotle notices a problem of the part-whole relationship between time and "now", not the relation of motion directly to the "now" which is subjected to time.
