"Novel writing of Muhammad Abdul Halim Abdullah in the context of his novel named "Laqita"

Since Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Egypt in 1798, the Arabic literature has been influenced from the western literature in general and French literature in particular. This development, which is considered as a turning point in the Arabic literature, is a watershed of the modern Arab literature. The cultural heritage that formed within the Arabic culture and literature from past up to the modern era and the values that are imported from the West have consisted the basic dynamics of the modern era literature. Muhammad 'Abdulhalîm 'Abdullah (1913-1970), one of the important writers of Modern Arab Literature, emerges as one of the writers of the second generation of the modern Egyptian novel. He began his career with novels and revealed successful works in the field of short story. In the introduction, emergence of novel as a literary genre in modern Arabic literature and outlines of its historical development are explored. In the first chapter, information about life, personality and literary works of Muhammad 'Abdulhalîm 'Abdullah is provided. In the second chapter, after giving extensive summary of the author's first novel Laqita (1947), analysis is made by focusing on elements the novel. In the conclusion, findings about the author and the subjects of the study are presented.
