Examination of the levels of neck and back pain seen in women during lactation

In this research, the level of the neck and low back pain of women during lactation, and impact on daily life of pain level we aimed to examine. The research included 50 women living in the province of Istanbul that applicants for Bezmialem Vakif University, Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation,Women's Health Training and Research Laboratory during in lactation period 0-6 months after delivery. Question form determining the sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics of the cases, Oswestry Lomber Scale and Neck Pain and Disability Index were administered by face-to-face interview method. In the statistical evaluation of the data, one way analysis of variance and t test was used. 68% of the women included in the research were between the ages of 20-29, rest of them was ages between 30-40. The average age of the women included in the research was 28,48±4,21. The women included in the research were on average 4,07±1,88 months postpartum. 42% of women were at 0-3 months postpartum, while 58% were at 4-6 months postpartum. 16% of the women in our research were more than over ideal weight, 30% were over ideal weight, and 54% were in ideal weight. Women were found to have an average body mass index of 25,81±3,68. When the educational status of the woman were examined, it was found that 14% was primary education, 4% was middle school, 12% was high school and 54% was graduated. When the form of delivery of women was examined, it was determined that 36% were delivered by normal delivery and 64% delivered by cesarean. It was found that 10% of the women included in the research had regular exercise during the postpartum period and 80% of the women did not exercise. Oswestry total score average of participants was 26,20±13,09. The mean score of pain and disability index were 29,990±14,46. There was no significant relationship between the total scores of Oswestry pain scale and Neck pain and disability index total scores in terms of age, education status, postpartum exercise status and body mass index.(p>0,05) Women participating in the research were found to have an Oswestry pain score of 0-3 months postpartum, higher than the total scores of 4-6 months postpartum.(p<0,05) Oswestry Pain Scale and Neck Pain and Disability Index for the women participated for research shows that average pain of total scores indicate that there is a slight functional loss in the daily lives. As the time passed after the give a birth, the gynecological traces of women were found to be diminished in the women with the low back pain levels and the functional loss in their daily lives.
