Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT The Effect of Music on Vital Signs of Patients in Postoperative Waking Unit After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Purpose: Purpose of the research to determine the effects of music on vital signs of patients in postoperative waking unit after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Material and Method: This research was conducted between March 2017- May 2018 at the postoperative waking unit of Diyarbakır Health Sciences University Gazi Yaşargil Education and Research Hospital (DSBÜ GYEAH) as a quasi-experimental research with pretest- posttest control group designs. The study population consisted of after laparoscopic cholecystectomy followed patients at the postoperative waking unit of DSBÜ GYEAH. The sample group consisted of 148 patients (74 test, 74 control) who meet the research criteria, selected with random sampling and determined according to power analysis. Patient Identification Form and Vital Signs Registration Form were used for materials of data collection. After surgery in the experimental and control group on the first admission to the waking unit (1. Measurement) vital signs registration form were applied. Then for 20 min in the experimental group patients listened to instrumental music CD prepared at Nihavend. After 20 min (2. Measurement) vital signs registration form were applied to in the experimental and control group patients. And then when patients first admission to the clinic from the postoperative waking unit (3. Measurement) vital signs registration form were applied. Descriptive statistics, Friedman Analysis of Variance, Mann Whitney U and T test were used in the analysis of the data. Results: Under scope of research; between test group and control group the mean level of changes of vital signs rates were examined; after music therapy (2. Measurement), there was a significant difference between groups in terms of only respiratory rate (p<0.05). When patients first admission to the clinic from the postoperative waking unit (3. Measurement), there was a significant difference between groups in terms of DBP and respiratory rate (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result of the research; it has been found that music provides stability of vital signs and affects some vital signs positively.
