Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to review the parameters of complete blood count in patients with laryngeal cancer such as neutrophil/lymphocyte count, which is stated to be able to be used particularly as an inflammation indicator in recent years, as well as thrombocyte count, MPV and thrombocyte/lymphocyte ratio and determine whether or not they have prognostic and predictive significance and have any connection with tumor pathological features (lymph node invasion, perineural invasion, perinodal invasion etc.). Cases registered with the diagnosis of laryngeal cancer in the archive of the Otolaryngology Department of Celal Bayar University Medical Faculty between the years of 2007-2016 were scanned retrospectively. The target population of the study comprised of 219 patients with laryngeal cancer. The demographic data belonging to patients was collected as gender and age. Patient and disease stage, disease region, thyroid cartilage involvement, T-stage, N-stage, M-stage, TN-stage, lymph node status perinodal involvement, grade, primary treatment method, surgical method, presence of locoregional recurrence, treatment status in recurrence, total laryngectomy requirement in recurrence, status of distant metastasis, place of distant metastasis, second primer status, place of second primer, survival statuses of patients and connection of death with cancer, platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV) and Platelet/Lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were analyzed. The predictive and prognostic effects of the complete blood count parameters of PLT, MPV and PLR on the patients and disease data were analyzed. The PLT level has predictive effects on the age, stage, stage-2, T-stage, M-stage, thyroid cartilage involvement and lymph node involvement of patients (p < 0.05). The MPV level has no significant predictive effect on the variables in this study (p > 0.05). The PLR rate has predictive effects on the stage-2, M-stage, thyroid cartilage involvement, distant metastasis and survival rates of patients (p < 0.05). PLR level has prognostic effect on the general survival time of patients (p < 0.05). When considered with other factors the blood platelet count, MPV value and PLR ratio may be useful in terms of providing an additional point of view to clinician. It is considered that it would be good to emphasize the necessity and continuity of these studies on this subject in patients with laryngeal cancer.
