The role of TRPM2/TRPM4/TRPM7 in laryngeal squamous cell carci̇noma

Abstract (EN)
Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is the second most common malignant head and neck tumor in the worl. Oxidative stress is one of the factors affecting etiology of LSCC. TRPM2/TRPM4/TRPM7 are ion channels whose ion channels are modulated by oxidative stress and whose expression is increased in malignant diseases. Our study aims to evaluate the role of TRPM2/TRPM4/TRPM7 in LSHK. Patients who were operated for LSCC in Fırat University, Department of Otorhinolaryngology between 2016 and 2022 were included in this study. The study consists of 2 groups. Group 1 (Control group): It was formed from the tumor-free tissues of 15 patients who were operated for LSCC, Group 2 (LSCC group): From the pathology specimens of 56 patients who were operated for LSCC. When the TRPM2/TRPM4/TRPM7 immunoreactivity of the LSHK group and the control group were compared, a statistically significant increase was found in the immunoreactivity of the LSHK group (p:0.001). When group 2 was classified according to its histological grade, it was seen that 20 patients were diagnosed as well-differentiated, 20 patients moderately differentiated, 16 patients poorly differantiated carcinoma. When TRPM2/TRPM4/TRPM7 immunoreactivity was compared according to hislogical grade; It was obserded that TRPM2 immunoreactivity was significantly increased in the moderately and poorly differentiated patient groups compared to the well-differantiated group (p:0,001). There was no significant difference between the moderately and poorl differantieted groups (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between the groups in TRPM4 and TRPM7 groups (p>0.05). We think that TRPM2/TRPM4/TRPM7immunoreactivity may be useful in the diagnosis of patients with LSCC. In addition, TRPM2 may contribute to assessing the degree of histological differentiation of these patient in the future.
