Abstract (EN)
Laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) is an aromatic and very important plant belonging to the Laurus genus of the Lauraceae family. Laurel, which has a unique scent, finds its natural habitat in the Mediterranean climate and is among the natural plant species of Turkey. Turkey provides 90% of the world's bay leaf needs and is among the important suppliers. In this study, it was aimed to determine the use and potential of the bay laurel plant in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries by studying its leaves, fruits and flowers. Laurus nobilis is a dioecious species with separate male and female plants. Turkey's Aegean Region is a region where bay laurel is widely grown for industrial purposes. Cultivated or natural bay leaves of both sexes offer almost the same composition and the same yield of essential oil. According to the results, it was revealed that the differences in the yield and composition of flower essential oils depend only on gender. All essential oils have antioxidant activities and significant antimicrobial effects, but leaf essential oils are far superior in every respect. As an approach, LNEO-loaded poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles were prepared using the essential oil (LNEO) obtained from the leaves of the plant Laurus nobilis, and LNEONPs were synthesized by the single emulsion method. LNEO was intercalally linked to CT-DNA, and in addition, its antiproliferative activity and mechanism were determined using molecular docking analysis by predicting the mechanism of action of LNEO on a dual PI3K/mTOR inhibitor. It is aimed to commercialize LNEO-loaded PLGA NPs in nanoparticle dosage form as cosmetic formulation. 14 separate samples obtained from Laurus nobilis plant leaves, fruit, leaf essential oil and fruit fixed oil were examined for inhibition activity on 3 enzymes known to be effective on skin aging. The results revealed that samples obtained from leaves showed significantly stronger activity than samples obtained from fruit. For this reason, nanoparticles containing leaf essential oil have been developed. As a result of the tests, it was revealed that nanoparticles showed similar activities as essential oil. When essential oil and nanoparticles containing essential oil were subjected to GCHS-MS analysis, it was observed that the major components in the essential oil were loaded into the nanoparticles.
