Abstract (EN)
Maxillary movements' effects on soft tissue are important during planning and execution of operation in ortognathic surgery. There are many reports in the literature regarding independent movements' effects on nose but controversy exist. Reviewing the effects of maxillary movements after Le Fort I osteotomy on nose is the aim of this study. Patients operated in Hacettepe University Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Dpt. between January 2010 – December 2016 were reviewed retrospectively using their preoperative and postoperative photographs. Regression analysis was made between maxillary movements and anthropometric values. Statistical analysis was made. Statistically significant difference exist between preoperative and postoperative alar width, supratip break angle, nasal dorsum angle, columellolabial angle, upper lip curvature, nose tip – facial midline distance angles (p≤0,05). Yet, only variables that can be associated with maxillary movements with statistical significance are upper lip length and columellolabial angle. During anterior movement of maxilla, upper lip lenghtens and columellolabial angle increases 2° for every 1 mm advancement. During impaction, upper lip shortens and columellolabial angle decreases 7° for every 1 mm impaction. Columellolobuler angle and nose tip – facial midline distance angles that haven't been studied to date were not associated with maxillary movements. Changes in alar width and upper lip curvature were thought to be associated with muscle retraction due to subperiosteal dissection. Low association rate of other variables like supratip break and nasal dorsum angle with maxillary movements give rise to thoughts towards different variables that hasn't been considered during like skin thickness, sex and age.
