Abstract (EN)
Aim: Leiomyosarcoma is a rare smooth muscle cell tumor. There is limited published data in the literature. Aim of this study is to evaluate the patients' clinical characteristics and the affect of cytoreductive surgery in case of disease recurrence to contribute to the literature. Material and Methods: 65 leiomyosarcoma patients who were operated between February 2007 and February 2016 in Baskent University Ankara Hospital were evaluated retrospectively. The patient characteristics and statistical analyses were performed via SPSS 22.0 for Mac. Results: The median age of patients' was 50. 5-year overall survival and disease free survival of all patients were 33.5% and 11.6% respectively. There was no significant survival difference between recurrent patients who had or had not secondary cytoreductive surgery (p:0.291). There was statistically significant difference in overall survival in patients who underwent tertiary cytoreductive surgery whose disease free interval is longer than 6 months and (p:0.007). Conclusion: Leiomyosarcoma is a rare malignity with aggresive behaviour. There is limited data about tertiary cytoreduction in the management of leiomyosarcomas. In this study, we analyzed tertiary cytoreductive surgery – overall survival relationship. We showed that there is an overall survival impact on patients with more than 6 months disease free interval. Key Words: Leiomyosarcoma, secondary cytoreduction, tertiary cytoreduction, sarcoma.
