Abstract (EN)

This thesis about Lewis Mumford consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, the life and works of Lewis Mumford are examined. In the second part, the place and importance of Lewis Mumford in the city literature is examined through the works of Lewis Mumford, and in the third part, the current city phenomenon that Lewis Mumford tries to find between the necropolis and the utopia through reading his works is examined. In the first part, the details of Lewis Mumford's life, which influenced him from birth to death and shaped his ideas on the city, the acquaintances that developed in his career and the details of the current world he was in while writing his works were examined. In the second chapter, the contribution of Lewis Mumford to the study of the formation process of the city along with the language and methods used in his works, his place and importance in urban literature are examined. His main criteria in the search for the origins of the city, values ​​that reveal the city according to Mumford and the historical process are examined through his works. In the third chapter, the utopias and myths that transformed or hoped to be transformed through literature in the world after the foundations of the city laid were examined from the perspective of Lewis Mumford.
