Abstract (EN)

As a result of close contact with Europe, XX. since the beginning of the century, the novel has been used as a tool for expressing various social and political views and for social protest in Egypt and Lebanon. From this point, issues such as women's freedom, the desire to see women actively in life, and questioning the tradition developed against women were mentioned. In the Arab world, women's liberation was a key not only to social development, but also to literary innovation because the freedom of women eliminated the depiction of a limited relationship and the separation between the sexes before the Arab writers. In our study, Laylâ Ba'albakî's novel Anâ ahyâ, which was written in this period and contains the issues of women's social status, traditional moral understanding, modernity, religious and moral value judgments, is discussed with its thematic analyses. This study consists of four parts, excluding the introduction and conclusion. In the first part, the development of modern Arabic literature and modern Arabic literature in Lebanon is discussed. In the second chapter, the life and works of Laylâ Ba'albakî are examined. In the third chapter, in the light of Laylâ Ba'albakî's first novel Ana Ahya, technical analyses and thematic analyses is presented. Our aim is to introduce Laylâ Ba'albakî and her works, which have an important place in modern Arabic literature, to the reader, and to present her contributions to the Arabic novel to those concerned.
