Stigma - related experiences of LGBT individuals and their demands of citizenship rights

In this thesis, life of LGBT individuals is studied especially the fact that it is stigmatized by society. LGBT individuals has to deal with lots of difficulties in many areas of daily life such as family, school, work, politics, justice, healt care, political life and public space. As a result of those problems, they claim equal rights as others and this demand is also studied in this thesis. 16 LGBT individuals has been studied by in-depth interviews. The following assumptions were tested in this study by qualitative research methods: 1) LGBT people are exposed to stigma and physical force in society 2) Stigma an physical force has been applied by social institutions 3) Although family supports family members in any kind of matter, it is not the case in transgender abuse and stigma 4) LGBT people are exposed to breach of human rights 5) LGBT people claim equality Our assumptions were proved. Most requested rights by order: Transgender (LGBT) people enjoy the constitutional rights of equality, privacy and personal autonomy, and freedom of expression and association * Legal gender recognition has to be protected by the Constitution * Civil partnership rights *
