Abstract (EN)

The thesis was prepared in order to examine the psychological effects of the negativities that LGBT individuals are exposed to in their social lives and the need for social work practices in this context. Within the scope of the social problem, the problems faced by LGBT individuals in many subjects such as education, health, working life, friendship and family relations that concern the society in general were expressed in their own words. Within the scope of the research, in-depth interviews were conducted with 25 LGBT individuals residing within the borders of Turkey between the ages of 18-50.The interviews were deciphered and converted into written text, and these texts were analyzed using the theme analysis technique. The findings obtained as a result of the research and the literature reviews have shown that LGBT individuals are condemned to oppression, exclusion, humiliation, marginalization and devaluation by the society in all areas of social life. However, it has revealed that LGBT individuals have been subjected to emotional, physical and sexual violence only because of their orientation and identity, and that they are faced with restrictions ranging from the deprivation of their fundamental rights. As a result of the research, the difficulties faced by LGBT individuals and the negative effects of these problems on their psychological health were seen and it was revealed how important social work practices are for this group. As a result of the research, solution suggestions were presented to meet the social service need for this group.
