Abstract (EN)

Through a historical viewpoint built on qualitative content analysis, this study aims to investigate the reasons why economically rich Libya during Kaddafi period experienced economic inequality and violence. Additionally, the 2011 Libyan civil war is analyzed as an exceptional event when seen from the perspective of the 2011 foreign intervention. In this context, this thesis looks more deeply into the events that took place in Libya before and after the crisis erupted, paying attention to the domestic causes behind the rebellion and the turn thereafter towards civil war; arrests, disappearances and violent actions perpetrated by both the regime and opposition forces during the civil war have been investigated.
