The effect of leader-member exchange on cyberloafing behaviours with the mediation role of interactional justice

Recently, businesses have given great importance to the concepts of leader and leadership. Leader-member interactions, which is an approach developed on establishing a strong relationship with employees, is one of the most important issues in the context of leadership. High-quality leader-member interaction in businesses increases the competitiveness and sustainability of businesses. In addition, a positive leader-member interaction in businesses affects the behaviour of employees towards the workplace. In enterprises where leader-member interaction cannot be fully achieved, employee's' perception of unfair attitudes towards the company is strengthened. This situation leads the employees to negative behaviours such as loafing and cyberloafing in the workplace. Cyberloafing, which is called internet usage outside of work, has a significant impact on businesses and employees. The main purpose of this study is to determine whether the leader-member exchange has an effect on cyberloafing behaviours with the mediate role of interactional justice. This study was carried out on telekom and banking sectors white-coller employees located in Somalia/Hargeisa province. The data from 260 employees were analyzed via structural equation modeling techniques (SEM) at the AMOS 26 statistical program. The findings showed that leader member exchange has a significant negative effect on employee's cyberloafing behaviors. Also, it was found that the effect of leader member exchange on employee's cyberloafing behaviors is explained through interactional justice.
