Leadership approach and douglas Mcgregor's X and Y theory: A study on the administrative staff in Bartın University

The concept of management, which emerged with the existence of man, has continued to develop in line with the needs of individuals and revealed the organizational consciousness. It is vital to meet both moral and material needs of the people that try to survive and it is quite challenging to meet these needs by a single person. Along with the consciousness of organization formed in this context, many scientists have made a lot of studies on managerial and leadership concepts. In our thesis study, which focuses on Douglas McGregor's X and Y Theory, the Leadership Approach, it was aimed to measure the validity of the leadership approach on administrative Staff of Bartın University by taking into account the units they work at. In the theoretical part of this study, which consists two main chapters, management science and processes, concepts of manager, leadership and motivation, also management theories have been tried to be explained in detail. In the empirical part of the study, a survey was applied to the administrative staff in Bartın University. SPSS 24 software was used for the analysis of the data. In the survey, X and Y Theory questions were randomized and 25 questions were asked in a total, 7 of which are demographical questions. A significant difference on X and Y theory was tried to be observed as a results of the analysis, using the factors of "gender, age, marital status, educational background, position, period of service and level of income". In this study, a significant difference was observed between "title, duration of service and income levels", but no significant difference was observed on "gender, age, marital status, education levels". Moreover, it was determined that X approach is more weighted than Y approach. Key Words: Management, Leadership, Bartın University, Administrative Staff.
