Lisans düzeyi okul psikolojik danışmanlığı uygulamasında yaşanan kritik olayların analizi yoluyla içgörü edinmek: Bir durum çalışması

This qualitative case study explored critical incidents (CIs) in undergraduate-level school counseling practicum and its supervision to understand how these experiences impacted counseling students' professional and personal development, and career orientation. 10 counseling students at Boğaziçi University who were enrolled in practicum between 2021 and 2024 narrated CIs in four contexts. CIs related to counseling practice included experiences of recognizing a misjudgment, unexpected responsibility, and witnessing a severe case. CIs related to site supervisor included attitude toward practicum students, conduct with students, embracement of the counselor role, and positive feedback. CIs related to faculty supervisor in group supervision included regulation skills, constructive feedback, supportive attitude, conceptual enrichment, and being overlooked. CIs related to peers in the group supervision included giving support, shared experiences, witnessing peer's case supervision, and observing changes in peer. Identified CIs seemed to impact counseling students' professional development through knowledge and skills, professional sensitivity, professional confidence, collaboration and support, and professional identity. Furthermore, CIs seemed to impact counseling students' personal development through self-awareness and reflection, emotional regulation and resilience, interpersonal skills, and empathy and compassion. Lastly, CIs seemed to impact counseling students' career orientation through motivation and commitment, perceived fit for the profession, and career exploration. Strengths, limitations and recommendations for future research and practice are discussed.
