Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research was to find social skill levels of middle school students? who were doing a licenced team sports, individual sports and students who weren?t doing any kind of sports. Also it was aimed to find social skill levels of those students according to gender and year at being licenced.In this research data were collected during 2010-2011 education year from middle schools in Düzce. There were 99 students who were doing team sports, 94 students who were doing individual sports and 95 students who weren?t doing any kind of sports with a total of 288 students participated this research.Data were collected using Social Skill Scale which developed by Riggio(1986) and traslated to Turkish by Yüksel(1998). Scale consists of 90 items with 6 dimensions. Each dimension included 15 questions. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 16 version with significant level was determined as 0.05.As a result of this research, it was found that licenced team and individual sports? students had higher level social skills than students who weren?t doing any kind of sports.From the dimensions of Social Skill Scale, it was found that students from team and individual sports had higher scores than non athlete students in emotional sensitivity, emotional expressivity, social sensitivity and social control areas.According to the gender, it was found that girls had higher scores than boys in the areas of emotional expressivity, emotional sensitivity, social expressivity and social control dimensions.When it was looked at totally girls had higher social skill level than boys.According to the students? year at being licenced, there were no significant defferences in social levels of students in emotional expressivity, emotional sensitivity, emotional control, and social sensitivity. But there was significant difference in social control level according to year at being licenced.
