The study of the effects of the science fairs on the success and behaviours towards chemistry

The purpose of these studies is to observe the behaviors towards the chemistry in science fairs and to change their success in chemistryAnkara Pursaklar High the 10th grade students in Ankara Pursaklar High School constitute the examples of these studies. The work on it was carried out in the spring term of 2006-2007 education periods. The research was completed in about six weeks. The randomly chosen 16 students took a 30 question test which included the subjects of chemistry. The test showed that the students locked most of subjects of chemistry. Besides, the same student took a behavior test towards chemistry which showed that they didn?t like chemistry and wanted to stay away from it.The students in this group were taken to science fair and shown the visual lessons which made them understand the subject easily.To determine the effect of the research, the final test was given to the students. We made use of science of statistics in order to analyze the behavior scale.The results of analyses showed that the science fairs had made a positive contribution to their success in chemistry and to their behaviors towards chemistry after those four students were interviewed. As a result of these interviews, the students were observed to be keen on visual studies in chemistry lessons with welt prepared projects and they said they wanted to participate in science fairs actively. As a result, a science fairs produced quite an effect on the students? behaviors towards chemistry.After all these observations, it was concluded trust the science fairs could be carried out in school, which would make a positive contribution to their learning chemistry behaviors towards chemistry.Key Words: Science fairs, chemistry education, constructivist approach
