11 ABSTRACT This study has been conducted to explore grade 10 students' misconceptions about conservation of mechanical energy which is a subject included in secondary school physics curriculum in Turkey. For this purpose the conceptual test of conservation of mechanical energy was developed. This conceptual test was given to 10th graders in 6 selected high schools in the city of Ankara. The analysis of the data revealed that the students had conceptual difficulties about conservation of mechanical energy. Key Words : Conservation of mechanical energy, misconceptions.
