An examination of some variables which predict high school students’ aggression

This study aims at determining the problem solving of the high school students, the level of self esteem, peer pressure and there is a difference with respect to aggressive acts they enter into by basing on their power to control the aggressive behaviour. As students because, in the view of continous anxiety level they are in, the gender, class level, conceived mother-father-teacher attitudes, type of school and according to social and cultural activities they attending. This research covers freshman, sophomore and senior students attending in public high school as High School of Çaycuma, Çaycuma Fatih High School, Çaycuma Endustrial and Trade school and Çaycuma Oktay Olcay Yurtbay Anatolian High School in Çaycuma in Zonguldak during 2005?2006. The investigation group covers these 538 students attending these schools mentioned above. In form of tools to collect data used in the research, the Aggressive Scale (AS), Problem Solving Inventory (PSI), Peer Pressure Inventory (PPI) and Self Esteem Inventory of High School Students (SEI) are used. Data are subjected to analysis, Independent-Samples T test, One Way ANNOVA, Scheffe Test and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis are used. At the end of the research, the level of aggressivness is determined to change according to conceived mother?father attitudes, conceived success level, conceived social and economical situation and attendance to social and cultural activities. The variables resulting in changes in the level of aggresiveness are gender, level of class, conceived father attitude and type of school attending. At the end of the research findings of investigation showed that male students level of aggresivness is higher than female students and 11th grade (senior) students level of agresivness is higher than those of 9th and 10th grade students, also,the students who conceive father attitude, as indifference, is higher than those of who conceive father attitude as authoritan and democratic and then the students? level of agresiveness who conceive teacher attitude as authoritarian, is higher than those of V who conceive teacher attitude, as indifference and democratic. Finally, the students? level of agresiveness attending trade school is higher than the level of the students attending other types of schools. The conception of problem solving ability, peer pressure variables produce significant relationship at p<0.001 level, together with the agresiveness points of students. These variables provide explanations 34% of the total variance of agresiveness. This result explains that the agresivness points of students are affected by problm solving ability, self esteem level and peer pressure, the variables at determining agressive acts they enter by basing on the power to control the agressive behaviour.
