Investigating the relationship between social media use frequency and social exclusion in high school students.

This study aims to determine the relationship between the frequency of social media use and social exclusion among high school students. The study group consists of 430 high school students in the Ferizli district of Sakarya province. Data of the study were collected with the Personal Information Form, Social Media Attitude Scale and Social Exclusion Experience Scale for Adolescents. The study is a relational research from quantitative research methods. Normality analysis was conducted in order to determine the analysis method of the data obtained in the study. Since the data did not provide the normality assumption as a result of the analysis, analysis was conducted with non-parametric tests. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the main purpose of social media use of high school students was entertainment, the most preferred application for entering social media was Instagram and the daily social media usage time of the majority of the students was two hours or more. As a result of the study, a positive, low-level significant relationship was determined between the frequency of social media use of high school students and their social exclusion status. As a result of the research, it was found that while high school students' social media attitudes did not show any significant difference according to gender and grade level, they did show significant difference according to the time spent on social media, the purpose of social media use and the application preferred to access social media. While the social exclusion status of the students did not show any significant difference according to gender, the purpose of social media use and the application preferred to access social media, it was found that there was a significant difference according to grade level and the average daily time spent on social media.
